Kobbie Mainoo has endured a difficult start to the Premier League season under Ruben Amorim but has remained motivated to secure a regular place in the Manchester United squad.

The 20-year-old is pushing for his first start in the league this Sunday when United visit Liverpool at Anfield. Mainoo featured in all five league games, coming off the bench after being an unused substitute in the opening two matches of the season.

Due to a lack of game time, the youngster requested a loan move in the summer, but it was turned down. Meanwhile, United have reportedly shown interest in Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton ahead of the New Year .

The 21-year-old joined Palace from Blackburn in a deal worth around £18 million plus add-ons in January 2024 and has quickly established himself as a key player under Oliver Glasner .

His impressive performances earned him a place in the England squad for Euro 2024.

According to the i paper , Amorim is reportedly an admirer of Wharton, which could see the club prioritise him ahead of Brighton's Carlos Baleba. It's thought that Baleba's inconsistent start to the campaign has raised concerns at United.

The report claims that Wharton's potential arrival could persuade Mainoo to 'seek pastures new.'

However, it is suggested that he is not seeking a move away from Old Trafford and is eager to impress, having done additional strength training during the international break .

Those closest to Mainoo reportedly feel that he is 'ready to step up' and help United move in the right direction following their mixed start to the season.

While a loan move in January could reportedly be revisited ahead of next summer's World Cup, a permanent transfer is said to not be part of the midfielder's plans.
