Jurgen Klopp has left the door open for a stunning comeback to Liverpool in the future. His recent comments mirror those he delivered when announcing his Anfield departure in January 2024, where he vowed never to manage another Premier League side - apart from Liverpool.

The 58-year-old left Liverpool after nine seasons in the summer of 2024 following a silverware-packed tenure on Merseyside. The German mastermind turned Liverpool from underachievers into European champions in 2019 and Premier League winners in 2020, ending the club's 30-year wait for a top-flight title.

Klopp originally pointed to exhaustion as a key factor behind his shocking exit, reports the Liverpool Echo . Nevertheless, his sabbatical from football proved brief as he accepted the position of Red Bull's Global Head of Soccer at the start of 2025, before subsequently taking on another role with the German Football League .

Addressing the club's official website when confirming his Liverpool departure, Klopp may have planted the groundwork for a future return.

"If you ask me, 'Will you ever work as a manager again?' I would say now 'no,'" Klopp said. "But I don't know obviously how that will feel because I never had the situation. What I know definitely is I will never, ever manage a different club in England than Liverpool, 100 percent. That's not possible.

"My love for this club, my respect for the people is too big. I couldn't. I couldn't for a second think about it. There's no chance. This is part of my life, we are part of the family, we feel home here. There's no chance to do that.

"But all the rest, will I ever work again? Of course, I know myself, I cannot just sit around. I will find something else maybe to do. But I will not manage a club or a country at least for a year, that's not possible, I cannot do that and I don't want to. That's all."

Some sections of the Reds' support will undoubtedly be quietly encouraged by Klopp's recent remarks. Liverpool suffered a devastating 2-1 home loss to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, with Arne Slot confronting his first significant crisis at Anfield since assuming control in the summer of 2024.

The Reds have endured now four consecutive defeats for the first time since 2015. Nevertheless, Slot is integrating several new signings and possesses sufficient goodwill following his remarkable Premier League triumph in his debut campaign on Merseyside.

Still, there's no questioning that Klopp holds an enduring position in the affections of Liverpool supporters. Speaking on Stephen Bartlett's Diary of a CEO podcast this week, he acknowledged a comeback to Liverpool remains feasible.

"I said I will never coach a team in England again, that means if it's Liverpool, theoretically it's possible," Klopp told Bartlett.

"I don't know exactly, I love what I do right now. I don't miss coaching, I do coach now but just different. I don't miss standing in the rain, two-and-a-half [to] three hours, I don't miss going to press conferences three times a week, having 12 interviews a week, I don't miss that, I don't.

"I don't miss being in the dressing room, I coached something like 1,080 games so I was in a dressing room often. I don't want to die in a dressing room because it's nice, it smells. There might be something, I'm 58, I could make the decision in a few years... I don't know."

Nevertheless, he made it clear that he's relishing his current position with Red Bull , saying: "Do I have to make the decision today that I will not coach again but thank god I don't have to, I can just see what the future brings.

"Now I'm in a project I really love, I like doing what I'm doing right now. In my mind, only if I'm focused 100 percent, I can do it really good."
