Journalist drops promising Sheffield Wednesday transfer update as Man United player medical booked

Sheffield Wednesday have received a major update in their hopes of signing players this summer

Sheffield Wednesday are optimistic of completing transfer business ahead of this evening’s 7pm deadline after more talks with the EFL over their situation - and a medical has been booked in for Man United teenager Harry Amass.

According to journalist Alex Miller of The Sheffield Star , the club have been discussing with the powers-that-be at the EFL over potentially bringing in players, but it has come to nothing so far - until potentially now.

Financial issues throughout the summer have led to outgoings being the majority of their business, with several key players departing Hillsborough in recent months.

Cardiff City goalkeeper Ethan Horvath is the only signing at Sheffield Wednesday since last season, with emergency approval granted due to Pierce Charles' injury, with the transfer market set to close at 7pm on Monday evening.

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly hoping to get transfer business concluded after talks with the EFL.

It has been claimed that the Owls have lined up a number of players in case they are granted permission to complete transfers, of which the aforementioned Miller has heard there could be positive developments.

Financial problems throughout the summer have led to the club being monitored closely by the EFL, which has also prevented further signings beyond Horvath’s arrival.

It is hoped that loan moves will be granted, with Manchester United’s Harry Amass among the possible arrivals, and in a further update, a medical has been booked in for the left-back ahead of the hope of the EFL easing the club's restrictions.

Manchester City youngster Jaden Heskey is also reportedly another option, although time is running tight on getting any moves over the line.

Recruitment staff have spent the last month preparing talks in the event that signings are permitted, meaning Sheffield Wednesday may be able to act fast once an official decision is made by the EFL.

It's been a difficult start to the 2025-26 season for Sheffield Wednesday , who have gone into the September international break sitting 23rd in the table after four games.

Only bitter rivals Sheffield United have made a worse start, with Henrik Pedersen’s team earning one point from a possible 12.

The departures of key players like Josh Windass and Michael Smith have weakened the squad over the summer, so any incomings will be welcome at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday have been left with a thin squad, and their results so far this season won’t be surprising to anyone paying attention.

Bringing in players like Amass and Heskey will help their chances of getting some points on the board, even if a relegation battle is still on the cards.

Amass has already earned Premier League minutes at Man United , indicating the potential he possesses, while Heskey has earned a reputation as a player with a lot of promise as well.
