Jeremy Monga: United learn price they need to pay to acquire high-flying winger
Manchester United are in the running to sign Leicester City winger Jeremy Monga .
With Joshua Zirkzee expected to depart the club and Amad Diallo shifting to wing-back, Man United will need more attacking reinforcements going forward, with only Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo playing as regular number 10s.
One player who could adapt to this role is a young and impressionable yet talented winger who is taking the EFL Championship by storm.
Entering the race
In late October, The Peoples Person relayed that United entered the race to sign the in-form Monga.
It appears that they’ve entered a challenging race, with several other Premier League clubs, including Manchester City, reportedly keeping an eye on him.
Despite facing competition from Man City, a team with Champions League football, United appear to be confident that they can get a deal over the line ahead of such stiff competitors.
This belief stems from the fact that City were close to signing the 16 year old when he decided to forego a professional contract in favour of signing scholarship terms with Leicester.
It now appears that United could be in with a bigger chance than ever of signing Monga, with his price tag being revealed.
United learn the right price
“Given his age and contract situation, Monga could leave Leicester for just £2 million, with a compensation fee unlikely to represent his true value to the Foxes,” Football Insider reported.
Despite the player being highly affordable, the article casts some doubt over whether the teenager will leave Leicester in the near term.
“There still is the doubt at Leicester that he could leave because he hasn’t signed a professional contract yet, and he can’t do that until he turns 17,” the report continued.
“If he doesn’t sign a pro deal, he can be lured away for a nominal compensation fee as well. It won’t just be Man United looking at him. City still remain interested in him as well,” the article concluded, inferring that City aren’t out of the race just yet.
It will be interesting to see if United can pull off a deal for Monga, especially since other young prospects such as Chido Obi have generated their fair share of excitement as well.
