Jamie Carragher has warned Arsenal and Liverpool about what could cost them the Premier League title. The Gunners were leading the league going into the October international break, having defeated West Ham United before Liverpool's defeat to Chelsea .
This marked a third consecutive defeat for Arne Slot's team, following losses to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray, after an impressive seven-match winning streak at the start of the season. During this period, Arsenal lost four points to Liverpool and Manchester City, but they are now on a winning streak of their own, having triumphed in their last four matches while only conceding once.
Last weekend, they secured their seventh clean sheet of the season against West Ham, having only let in three goals in the Premier League. Despite injuries affecting Mikel Arteta's squad, new signings have significantly improved the depth of the team.
Martin Odegaard is the latest Arsenal player to suffer an injury, with a knee problem forcing him to withdraw from the Norway squad.
Despite not being at his best recently, he still has a crucial role to play, with Carragher praising his impact as a substitute in last month's comeback win over Newcastle United.
Carragher also weighed in on the title race, offering a fresh perspective on Arsenal's chances as they battle Liverpool to the title.
"The only thing that can stop you is that thing that's probably stopped other teams in the past, where you get to March, April, and there's so much hanging over your shoulder," he said on the latest edition of The Overlap.
"I think what you said, we've all said it, they've got a squad, and when you look across, they're better than Liverpool right now. I never put my ticket [on Liverpool], they'll come and do a bit.
"I think what you used to do, what people used to say, is three or four points off the lead going into January, especially. I think Liverpool could find themselves five, six points behind, even in February."
That final point isn't set in stone though, with Liverpool battling inconsistency and appearing well short of the mark in certain matches. Significant reconstruction occurred at Anfield during the summer window and the delayed capture of record transfer Alexander Isak is undoubtedly one element affecting proceedings.
