Jakub Kiwior has sent an emotional message to Arsenal supporters after completing a transfer deadline day move to Porto.
It brings an end to Kiwior's two-and-a-half-years in London, with the Polish international joining from Italian side Spezia in a deal worth around £20million in January 2022. Under Arteta he made 68 appearances for the Gunners and demonstrated his versatility by playing both at centre-back and left-back.
After his move was confirmed, Kiwior took to social media to write an emotional 30-word goodbye message. "I would like to thank all the people and fans I met along my journey at Arsenal," the defender said.
"These were unforgettable moments that will stay with me forever. Thank you, Gunners [love heart emoji]."
A popular member of Arsenal's dressing room, a number of Gunners players took to the comments to wish the player well. Declan Rice wrote: "Monster! Good luck brother."
William Saliba commented: "My guy we will miss you." Riccardo Calafiori said: "Kubacitoooo." On another post Gabriel Martinelli said: "All the best my guy, you’re gonna be missed."
Kiwior was allowed to depart after Arsenal confirmed the signing of Piero Hincapie. The 23-year-old joined the Gunners on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, with the deal including an option to buy clause worth £45million.
The Ecuador international, who is capable of playing centre-back and left-back, made more than 100 appearances for Leverkusen since joining in 2021 and played a key role in their Bundesliga title victory in 2023/24. Hincapie himself took to Instagram after the move was complete to send a message to Leverkusen's supporters.
"Today, it’s time for me to say goodbye to Bayer 04 Leverkusen," he said. "These have been four years of dedication, hard work, and lessons that have helped me grow not only as a player but also as a person.
"Thank you to my teammates, coaches, and all the fans for their unwavering support at every stage. I leave with a heart full of gratitude and the pride of having defended this badge with passion and commitment. This club and its people will always hold a very special place in my heart."
