I partied with Grimsby until 3am after huge win but Man Utd flops scarpered
GRIMSBY TOWN stars partied until 3am after a historic night under the lights saw them dump the mighty Manchester United out of the Carabao Cup.
The League Two side inflicted one of the biggest upsets in English football history - but many fans had faith before the game given the ongoing shambles at Old Trafford.

Ruben Amorim’s side lost 12-11 on penalties after crawling back from 2-0 down to scrape a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes - a result that will be remembered for years to come.
United were 1-7 odds to win and sit 56 places above Grimsby in the football pyramid and brought on £71million signing Bryan Mbeumo at half-time to grab a goal back before Harry Maguire seemed to have rescued them with a back-post header in the 89th minute.
Grimsby fan Rhys, 19, who sat near the away end last night, told SunSport: “It’s a fever dream. It’s such a weird feeling.
“You have so much hope before the game but to actually see it play out was unbelievable. It was one of the best feelings of my life.”
Rhys’ earliest football memory was watching Grimsby get relegated from the English football league by Burton Albion with his dad in 2010.
That year, United missed out on a fourth-straight Premier League title after finishing runners up behind Chelsea following Cristiano Ronaldo’s then-British record departure of £80m to Real Madrid June 2009.
Rhys, who is a student at Manchester University, made sure to call his Manc pals after Mbeumo’s missed penalty won it for David Artell’s side.
The big Mariners fan added: “I was straight on the phone to my grandparents too because they used to be season-ticket holders at Old Trafford.
“My dad’s side of the family are from Manchester. They’re all big United fans. To be fair a lot of my mates who are United supporters said we ‘deserved it’”.
Another local fan, who operates a fish and chip van inside Blundell Park and works at Grimsby Town station’s cafe bar, revealed the club put on a big party in the clubhouse until the early hours of Thursday morning.
MANCHESTER UNITED are at rock bottom after the biggest cup upset saw the club crash out of the Carabao Cup second-round to League Two Grimsby Town on penalties.
Ruben Amorim's United lost to a four-tier side for the first time ever.
The home fans sang “you’re getting sacked in the morning” to Amorim throughout and you can’t help but wonder if they’re right.
Here's how SunSport's Katherine Walsh rated United's flops at Blundell Park.
He told SunSport: “I had a few drinks with all the players, it was on the house. Completely free.
“What a night, I was feeling a little worse for wear this morning because I don’t usually drink. The United squad rushed off as soon as they could.”
United had never lost to a fourth-tier team in the EFL Cup, and were playing in the second round for the first time since 2014 after failing to qualify for Europe.
The Prem giants also lost 4-0 in that game to MK Dons 11 years ago.
Transfermarkt reckon United’s squad is worth around £762million more than Grimsby's.
But they levelled the playing field in their own stadium, which has a capacity of just over 10 per cent that of Old Trafford.

As a big football fan, and with close family affiliations to the Red Devils, Rhys also gave his take on the situation in the away dugout.
He said: “United probably expected to turn up and beat us but we knew they would struggle under pressure, they are so shaky at the back. We beat them man-to-man.
“It’s really worrying for United, the players they’ve got and the money they’ve spent, how can they play like that? We were the better team for 70 minutes.
“They could be in a relegation battle this year. Onana was hilarious because he kept diving early and always to the left.”
Rhys hit the town with thousands of other Grimsby fans who invaded the pitch and chanted for Amorim “to be sacked in the morning” on one of the most memorable nights in football history.
He said: “We were in The Swashbuckle Pub in Cheetrophes until this morning. I’ll never forget it”.
The United squad rushed off as soon as they could.
An honourable mention goes to 18-year-old academy graduate Harry Brown who sent Onana the other way after slotting his spot-kick into the right post.
New signing Clarke Adour, who joined on loan from Bradford City on Monday, was the only Grimsby player to have his penalty saved by the former Champions League finalist.
But Brazil international Matheus Cunha failed to spare Amorim’s blushes when his spot-kick was saved by Christy Pym as each side’s 11 stepped up to take one.
A second-round of penalties saw Darragh Burns make it 12-11 before Mbeumo’s second spot-kick smacked the crossbar leading to an incredible pitch invasion.
Rhys will try to get his hands on tickets for when Grimsby travel to Hillsborough to face Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday in the third round.
