Humble Haaland says he is not at the same level as Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo
Erling Haaland insists “no one can get close” to Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi .
Haaland has been in electric form this season, scoring 17 goals in 13 games in all competitions for Manchester City and his performances have drawn comparisons to the likes of Messi and Ronaldo, including from his own manager Pep Guardiola.
But the Norway striker says he does not see himself at the same level as those two.
“No, not at all,” Haaland replied when asked if he saw himself at the same level as the legendary duo.
“Far off. No one can get close to them two, so no.”
Haaland has also scored a whopping 26 goals for club and country this season, and says that while he is on the way to breaking his own record of 57 goals in a season, individual records are not something he is focused on.
“I had 57 including the national team so I’m in a good way, but again, I don’t think of this,” he said.
Also asked about Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record, Haaland said: “I have to ignore them. I don’t know many records but I know this one, his Premier League record.
“But again, I can’t think about records I can break. That’s the last thing I think of. I just try to help the team win football games, that’s my job and that’s my main focus.
“I know it’s boring and I know you want me to say the complete opposite but it’s not how it is.”
