How Lionel Messi could play his part in Joan Laporta losing Barcelona presidency

Barcelona legend Lionel Messi could go on to play a telling role in the upcoming presidential election at the club.

That’s according to Cadena SER , who have on Tuesday provided an insight into the situation.

The next round of elections for the board at the Spotify Camp Nou are due to take place in 2026.

Current Blaugrana president Joan Laporta is for his part expected to run for a fresh stint as the leading figure in Catalunya’s capital.

The competition, though, will be fierce.

And as alluded to above, opposing contenders for the presidency, it is understood, have already begun making plans involving none other than Lionel Messi .

As per a report from SER:

‘Messi has been contacted by people from the Barça environment, but not by Joan Laporta, current president of the club.’

It now remains to be seen if the greatest player in Barcelona’s storied history is willing to play his part in Laporta either retaining his throne, or being pushed out.
