‘He won and then didn’t continue at Spurs’ – Arteta praises Postecoglou ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Mikel Arteta lauded the record of his opposition manager Ange Postecoglou ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Postecoglou was appointed as the new Forest boss this week , having last come up against Arteta while he was in charge of the Gunners’ fierce rivals Tottenham.

And despite having only been in the post a few days, Arteta says his side must be wary of a changed Forest.

“Especially what he’s done and what he’s put in place to get a team playing so quickly in his way,” Arteta said when asked what he admires about Postecoglou.

“And that’s a lot of credit because you need not only the tools and the knowledge to do it but the ability to convince players that have played in a really different way.

“And he’s done it in three different places and won, and won very convincingly as well.

“The way we prepare every game is we expect the best out of the opponent. So we’re going to expect the best out of Forest with some things that they did in the past and with the new things that he’s (Postecoglou) done, and after we have to be better than that, that’s it.”

Asked about Postecoglou’s departure from Tottenham after winning the Europa League, and whether winning trophies is all that matters, Arteta responded: “At the end he won and then he didn’t continue at Spurs , so the answer is clear. No, in that particular case. In other cases it’s different.

“If you don’t win enough football matches, you are out in this industry, that’s for sure. How many, that varies from one place to another.”
