Glenn Murray believes four teams are capable of winning the Premier League title this season.
Reigning champions Liverpool will look to make it two wins from two on Monday night when they face Newcastle United at St James’ Park .
Only two teams – Arsenal and Tottenham – boast a perfect record after two weekends of the Premier League, though Liverpool can join the north London rivals on six points with a victory over Newcastle.
Liverpool finished ten points clear of second-placed Arsenal last season but already look set to face more competition this term.
Murray anticipates a ‘four-horse race’ for the Premier League title between Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City and ‘wild card’ Chelsea.
Liverpool bolstered Arne Slot’s squad with a £300m spending spree this summer and the Reds began their title defence with a 4-2 win over Bournemouth .
Arsenal, who have also enjoyed a productive transfer window, beat Manchester United on the opening weekend before thrashing Leeds United 5-0 on Saturday .

Manchester City looked back to their best in a 4-0 thumping over Wolves last week but slipped up at home to Tottenham at the weekend .
Chelsea, meanwhile, began the 2025-26 campaign with a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace before smashing another London rival, West Ham, 5-1 on Friday night .
‘I heard Mikel Arteta saying Arsenal have picked up more points than any other team in the last three years in the Premier League,’ ex-Premier League striker Murray told Ladbrokes .
‘So, they’re doing something right… it’s just that final step, and I suppose as well it’s just being composed in the moment. A couple of times they’ve been knocking on the door, they’ve been so close and just slipped away at the final moment.
‘I would have it as a three-horse race plus the wild card of Chelsea because we’re not quite sure what they’re capable of.
‘The potential is all there, the youthful exuberance – which we saw glimpses of it last season, especially up until Christmas – and I think they’ll be all the better for that experience of the last Premier League season, and of being up there.
‘And then obviously getting their hands on silverware over in the Club World Cup. So, I think it’s a four-horse race, to be honest.
‘For me, with the business they’ve done, they’ve strengthened from a position of power… I think Liverpool will win the league.
‘They won it at a canter last year, but this time out, I think it’ll be a lot tighter.
‘In fact, I think this could be one of the best Premier League seasons for a very, very long time, not only for the top of the table, but also for the bottom of the table.’
