Gary Neville shares what he’s now hearing about Ruben Amorim as United turn corner
Manchester United legend Gary Neville has revealed what he is hearing behind the scenes about Ruben Amorim amidst the club’s dramatic resurgence.
United made it three consecutive Premier League wins as they beat Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday at Old Trafford.
A Bryan Mbeumo double and strikes from Matheus Cunha and Casemiro were enough as United secured a thrilling 4-2 victory over the Seagulls.
United are currently sitting in sixth place in the table, level on points with Manchester City in fifth and six points adrift of table leaders Arsenal.
After a patchy start to the 2025/26 season, United now appear to have turned a corner and are slowly building momentum under Amorim.
A few weeks ago, Amorim was under immense pressure and there were even suggestions that his job was on the line. All that has seemingly been forgotten as United look to put together a sustained run of positive results and performances.
Earlier this month, Neville delivered a scathing assessment of Amorim , who admitted that criticism from the media was getting to him and his players.
Now, Neville has given a fresh verdict on the Portuguese coach, revealing what he’s hearing about his improved fortunes.
Speaking on his Sky Sports podcast [as quoted by The Standard ], Neville remarked, “We’re only a week or so away from when I was thinking the manager was under pressure, by the way, so we’ve got to be really careful here.”
“We could be there again in a couple of weeks, it’s that type of season, that type of feeling.”
“And I hear this: a few weeks ago, I was worried about the players buying into the system and the way of playing, and I truly was. But what I was never worried about was [Amorim] losing the changing room. No, that’s never happened with Amorim.”
The former England international continued, “The players really like him, they like him a lot … The players really like him and want to do well for him, and I think that’s come through in the last week or so.”
“It’s been a really good week for United, Amorim’s best week in the job, his most important week in the job … it’s been a big, big, big period for Amorim. He’s got himself back on track. People are now just starting think ‘Okay, something could happen here for him.'”
United are back in action on Saturday when they face Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
