Fulham star risks wrath of Premier League chiefs with furious rant on VAR controversy

Fulham defender Antonee Robinson has risked punishment from the Premier League by labelling the standard of its officiating 'shocking for too long'. Robinson, 28, was part of the Fulham side who were left furious after their opening goal against Chelsea on Saturday was controversially ruled out by VAR .

Josh King, Fulham's 18-year-old academy graduate, scored after an assist from Rodrigo Muniz. But following a lengthy VAR check which saw referee Robert Jones sent over to the pitch-side monitor, the goal was ruled out for a foul by Muniz in the build-up.

The Cottagers striker was adjudged to have fouled Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah while he was turning on the ball. Michael Salisbury, the video assistant referee , advised Jones to review the incident and a foul was awarded.

Chelsea went on to win 2-0 at Stamford Bridge , extending Fulham's winless start to the Premier League season. On Sunday, the PGMOL admitted that VAR shouldn't have intervened , removing Salisbury from his duties for Liverpool against Arsenal that afternoon.

It was in response to the PGMOL's acknowledgment that Robinson hit out. In a post on Instagram , the United States international slammed the level of refereeing and use of VAR in English football's top-flight.

"If they can check something for 5 minutes and still get it wrong, what's actually the point?" Robinson posted. "Standard of officiating has been shocking in the prem for too long now."

His boss, Marco Silva , wasn't impressed with the decision either. "How you disallow a goal like that is unbelievable," Silva told TNT Sports . "We have meetings with referee and people in charge, we all want to win. VAR is not here to re-referee the game.

"I would prefer not to say something more because I would be punished. I want to be on the touchline next week to help my team, I don't want to be fined. But it has been a difficult start to the season with some decisions."

Fulham were also unhappy that Chelsea's first goal came beyond the eight minutes of allotted injury time. "I would love to explain many things," Silva continued. "The first goal - eight minutes extra time. After the first corner it was already nine minutes. It is time to stop the game. That is the rules.

"I asked the referee and he said because we lost time. But I checked the eight minutes. The game didn't stop. It's very difficult. I make mistakes, the referee makes mistakes, but when it is black or white, we cannot see something that is not there."
