Ex-Man United star Christen Eriksen wanted back in Premier League

Christian Eriksen arrived at Manchester United in the summer of 2022 as a free agent after parting ways with Brentford.

The Danish midfielder had a decent stay at Old Trafford, although he dropped down the pecking order following Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

Eriksen’s contract expired at the end of last season, and the Red Devils opted not to hand him a new deal.

With Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, and Manuel Ugarte competing for the two places in Amorim’s midfield, the Dane was deemed surplus to requirements.

Recent reports have stated that the 33 year old is training with Swedish club Malmo in a bid to build up his fitness ahead of a new adventure. It now appears that Eriksen won’t be short of suitors in the coming days.

Eriksen reportedly turned down Wrexham this summer as he wants to continue playing at the highest level. Interestingly, former club Ajax have also been touted as a possible destination, although a move hasn’t materialized yet.

However, speaking to Football Insider , journalist Pete O’Rourke has stressed that multiple suitors in the Premier League and the Championship are eyeing the Dane.

“Christian Eriksen is still available as well. He obviously spent last season at Man United but left when his contract expired earlier this summer. He’s another good free agent and I’m sure there are a number of clubs who are looking at him,” said O’Rourke.

“It’s Premier League and Championship sides, or clubs in Europe who have been having a look at him since he left United as well. Eriksen has great experience of playing at the highest level and wants to get back to playing there.”

Eriksen registered five goals and six assists from 35 games for United last season, 19 of which were starts.

O’Rourke went on to add that Eriksen is likely to get better offers now that the summer’s transfer window has closed.

“The player has been waiting to see what offers come in for him, and now that the window’s closed there is likely to be less competition for him,” said O’Rourke.

“That means he’ll get better offers from clubs soon, probably in the next few weeks. If there are any major injuries or suspensions, it will open the door for Eriksen to find a new club and get playing this season.”

Interestingly, former Danish midfielder Thomas Gravesen has criticized Eriksen for his lack of ambition since leaving United .
