ESPN: Man United ‘still exploring’ late deal for 24/25 league winner with post-deadline transfer

Manchester United could yet sanction a late deal thanks to the delayed transfer deadlines in other leagues.

Despite Premier League and most European clubs having until Monday at 7pm to finalise all their signings, sides in Belgium (September 8), Turkey (Sep 12) and Saudi Arabia (Sep 23) can still bolster their squads and, in turn, take any deadwood off United’s hands.

Tyrell Malacia is the only remaining player of Ruben Amorim’s ‘bomb squad’ at Old Trafford this summer, with all of Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho securing moves elsewhere, whether that be temporary or permanent deals.

United were also quick to offload Rasmus Hojlund after he was deemed surplus to requirements when Benjamin Sesko made the switch, so you’d imagine if they can get rid of Malacia before the end of the month, they will.

In the final week of the window, the Dutchman actually came close to signing for La Liga outfit Elche on loan.

Malacia had green-lit the move and was said to be enticed by the prospect of joining Elche , having been given assurances over his game time. That was until talks collapsed between the Spaniards and United due to disagreements over a potential buy option/obligation to include in the prospective deal.

As a result, he is now having to consider alternative options, as per ESPN .

Rob Dawson’s report does add that a ‘final decision’ on the 26-year-old will be left to Amorim to mull over.

That being said, the head coach signed off on Malacia’s mid-season switch to PSV Eindhoven back in January, where he ended the campaign with an Eredivisie winners’ medal to his name. The club did, however, opt against adding him to their ranks permanently.

Malacia has made eight appearances in total under Amorim since returning from his knee injury, which kept him out of action for 18 months.
