Arsenal are closing in on one of the most important deals of the summer after reaching an agreement in principle with Crystal Palace to sign Eberechi Eze.
Earlier this week, the England international had seemed certain to move to Tottenham but Kai Havertz's injury has led to the Gunners making a move. Mikel Arteta's side will pay close to the £68 million release clause in Eze's contract, which expired last week.
Should all go well, the versatile playmaker will become Andrea Berta's seventh signing of the summer. Eze will join Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke in bolstering Arteta's attack while also offering competition to Martin Odegaard.
How did Arsenal make their move?
It's understood that Arsenal sporting director Berta and vice-chairman Tim Lewis were both key in the operation to move for Eze. Palace had been reluctant to accept Eze's move to Tottenham until after Thursday's Conference League clash with Fredikstad, meaning the door was left open.
Fortunately for the Gunners, Eze has previously discussed his admiration for the club. That made personal terms straightforward to agree on.
When is Eze's medical?
According to Fabrizio Romano, the 27-year-old will undergo his medical at Arsenal on Friday. After playing at Selhurst Park tonight, Eze is expected to then complete the final details.
When will he become an Arsenal player?
It's incredibly unlikely that he will play for the Gunners on Saturday against Leeds (5.30pm).
Eze is expected to play a big part in Palace's European game tonight before completing the formalities of his move to the Emirates Stadium.
According to Premier League rules, new players must be registered by 12pm on the last working day before the game for them to feature in the next month.
That means Eze's transfer to Arsenal has to be completed by lunchtime on Friday for him to feature.
That would mean his debut for Arteta's side will likely come against Liverpool on Sunday, August 31.
