He hit the headlines after making it to the quarterfinals of the ITF MT1000 Lima 45+ in Peru.

The Uruguayan was rushed to hospital at the weekend after suffering an injury in a friendly football match according to El Observador .

The paper reported that, “Diego Forlán had a different kind of Saturday after suffering an injury while defending Old Boys in the classic match against Old Christians in the +40 University League, which ended in a 4-1 victory for his team. He suffered three broken ribs and a small pneumothorax and remains hospitalised.”

The article went on to state that while playing in the match, he “gave everyone a scare when he fell heavily to the ground and remained lying there.”

There was reportedly no malicious intent by his opponent to injure the former United star.

Whilst at the hospital he had to have fluid drained from his lung but luckily, Forlán is in good condition and will remain in hospital until today.
