David Beckham stunned an Argentine football fan by taking an interest in his team and posing for a photo with his obscure top. Beckham , along with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo , is probably the most instantly recognisable footballing figure in the world .
The 50-year-old’s accomplishments with Manchester United and England were legendary, and he has kept up his high profile with various business ventures, documentaries and photoshoots . One venture includes founding his own MLS side, Inter Miami, in 2018.
They began competing in 2020 and have since attracted the likes of Messi. Fans from Latin America and beyond frequently flock to Florida to watch the Argentine icon in action for Beckham’s side, having pulled off the miracle signing in July 2023 .
One such fan was Imanol Waisgold, who was fortunate to bump into the Inter Miami founder and co-owner during a trip to the USA. Mr Waisgold was carrying a shirt belonging to second-tier Argentine football club Chacarita Juniors.
Much to his astonishment, the former England captain took a genuine interest in both him and the Buenos Aires-based team, before posing for a picture holding the jersey having shut down the club's store for him.
The photo ended up going viral and increasing the popularity of Chacarita. Discussing with Argentine publication Diario Ole how that interaction came to be, the fan highlighted how down-to-earth the Chingford-raised celebrity was.
He labelled Becks a “very cool guy” - high praise when considering he was estimated by the 2025 Sunday Times Rich List to be worth around £500million .

Imanol said: "It was crazy. He (Beckham) went into the club's official store, they closed everything, and I was left with my girlfriend next to him. I asked him for a photo, he came over, and I showed him the jersey.
"I was drinking [the Argentinian drink] mate and he said, 'Argentina?', and asked me about the club's crest. I told him what Chacarita was and that it was a second division club. Very cool, really cool guy!”
He added: "I always take the Chacarita jersey with me everywhere, on any trip I take. I also got [Inter Miami player] Marcelo Weigandt to talk to me, and he also stayed and talked with the best disposition.
"He reacted normally because he knows the club. I wanted to wait for Leo [Messi] and Rodri [De Paul], but they left in their cars.”
