Although the change may seem insignificant and an unusual thing for fans to care about, it actually signifies a huge moment for the South London club.

That is because the change in flag is part of a long-held tradition for teams who have won the FA Cup .

For decades, teams across the English football pyramid have adhered to an unwritten rule stitched into the fabric of football folklore.

That 'rule' states that only previous winners of the FA Cup have earned the right to use triangular corner flags.

Although the rule is not stringently followed by every club across the country, most teams have adopted the idea without it ever being written in FA law.

After Palace's Wembley dreams came true with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City in last season's FA Cup final, the Eagles ground staff made the decision to change their corner flags this term.

Fans who are aware of what the subtle change means have rejoiced on social media.

While another added: "That's just beautiful."

And a third posted: "Have to be in the club to have these corner flags".

Palace join the likes of Aston Villa , Arsenal and Chelsea in the list of Premier League clubs that subtly flex their FA Cup success with their matchday corner flags.

But it almost didn't happen, with Crystal Palace head groundsman Gareth Read telling the New York Times that superstition could have got in the way in the past.

Speaking after the Eagles were defeated by Man Utd in the 2016 FA Cup final, Read said: "Some parts of football have become very uniform, so you want things that are going to be different from every other club.

"If the team’s on a good winning run, I’d rather keep things the same.”
