Cole Palmer issues blunt Chelsea injury update amid frustrating Blues absence

Cole Palmer has expressed his anxiety to get back on the pitch for Chelsea . The Blues playmaker has missed the majority of the opening months of the season with a groin injury.

Palmer was initially expected to return soon, albeit his comeback has now been put back, with December being a more realistic timeframe. But it appears that Palmer is keen to get back in action as soon as possible.

After being handed a memento by Chelsea for his 100th appearance for the club, Palmer shared a picture of himself in training gear. He added: "100 & more to come! Can't wait to be back, man."

Palmer, 23, had scored two goals in four appearances for Chelsea this season before sustaining his injury. That form followed 18 and 27 goal seasons following the England man’s move from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

“I was wrong. Unfortunately, he needs to be out probably six more weeks,” Maresca said recently about Palmer’s fitness. “Yes, absolutely [he still doesn’t need surgery].

“We try just to protect Cole as much as we can and the most important thing is that. Unfortunately, the medical staff, they are not magicians, they never know that you probably need six weeks.

“We hope that six weeks, they are enough, but it’s a problem that we need to see step by step, week after week, but for sure he’s going to be okay. He looks very good, to be honest, he looks relaxed.

“He’s trying to recover from the injury, he’s doing all the therapy that he needs to do, so he looks good.”

Chelsea are back in action this week as they take on London rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Away from Palmer, the Blues also have a whole host of other players restricted to the sidelines.

Levi Colwill, Dario Essugo and Benoit Badiashile are all out with long-term issues. Speaking ahead of Chelsea’s Carabao Cup clash with Wolves at Molineux, boss Maresca said: "They are probably players that need to be protected. Probably tomorrow.

"We will see. Enzo [Fernandez], Moi [Moises Caicedo] and Joao [Pedro], they are all different players for different reasons we need to protect them."

Following their clash with Spurs, Chelsea then turn their attentions back to the Champions League with a clash against Qarabag to come next week.
