Chelsea could be working against the clock to complete two transfers before 7pm, but there's one loophole that can be used to set a new deadline.
The Blues have been extremely busy this summer - with well over 20 deals already sanctioned. The latest of those has been confirmed in recent hours with Facundo Buonanotte joining the club on a season-long loan from Brighton and Hove Albion.
He joins Liam Delap, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr, Jamie Gittens, Joao Pedro, Jorrel Hato and Alejandro Garnacho as players to sign for the club over the last few months. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Christopher Nkunku and Noni Madueke are among those to have departed Stamford Bridge permanently.
Two further departures are expected before the window slams shut with £36.2million set to come Chelsea's way and well over that fee the following year.
That's because an obligation-to-buy clause has been included in Nicolas Jackson's move to Bayern Munich, while Fulham have agreed a £22million deal for Tyrique George.
Following an injury to Delap, Jackson's move to the German champions was called off but, following new talks, the deal - which includes an increased loan fee up to £14.2million - has been agreed. Now, Bayern have an obligation to sign him next summer for £56.2million.
George, meanwhile, saw a switch to AS Roma collapse - but he's now set to remain in the Premier League. Most of the formalities look to have already been agreed, but just in case a few intricacies still need to be resolved in either deal, Chelsea and the buying clubs could have until 9pm.
A transfer deal sheet is the reason for that with it used to prove that a transfer is officially done before the set deadline passes. Once filled in, a further two hours are allowed for the switch to be formally ratified and all the required paperwork completed.
An important thing to note for deal sheets to be used effectively is that a transfer fee and potential add-ons must be included in the information submitted prior to 7pm.
That does not currently appear to be an issue in either deal, with medicals for both easy to complete as Jackson is still in Munich, while George just needs to travel across London.
With numerous financial details to sort out, there could be some panic to complete Jackson's move, but it is more than likely Bayern will either officially seal his signing before 7pm and announce it in due course or use a deal sheet to submit the relevant paperwork after the deadline.
