Brentford vs Chelsea preview, team news and predicted lineup

Chelsea make the short journey across West London for their fourth derby of the season as they take on Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday. Enzo Maresca’s side have yet to play outside the capital this season, and the familiar surroundings have worked in their favor, with Chelsea heading into the weekend sitting second in the table.
In a rare sequence, Chelsea will contest their fourth London derby in as many games, returning to action after a controversial 2-0 victory over Fulham last time out. That match was marked by two highly debated refereeing decisions—one disallowing Fulham’s opener and another awarding Chelsea a second-half penalty—both of which proved pivotal. Still, the Blues secured all three points, extending their unbeaten home run in the Premier League in 2025 to 12 matches, with nine wins and three draws.
Brentford, meanwhile, have seen all three of their victories over Chelsea come away from the Gtech Community Stadium, but they have also managed to avoid defeat in three of their four home encounters with the Blues. Manager Keith Andrews would likely settle for another draw this time, especially after a challenging summer has left the Bees with two losses from their first three matches.
Brentford’s last outing ended in heartbreak, as they surrendered a late lead to lose at Sunderland courtesy of a 96th-minute winner from Wilson Isidor. With the international break following that defeat, Andrews and his team have had to wait two weeks for a chance to respond.
Brentford lost Wissa but secured the signing of Reiss Nelson on deadline day, and the home fans will be eager to see him reach full fitness soon, as he has yet to play any competitive minutes for Arsenal this season. After a challenging, injury-plagued campaign last year, Igor Thiago has already found the net three times this season and will be a key attacking threat for the hosts.
Vitaly Janelt, who missed international duty with Bosnia due to a foot injury, has returned to training and is further along in his recovery than Gustavo Nunes and Yunus Konak.
For Chelsea, Cole Palmer has rejoined training after missing the last two league matches and the international break with England, but he remains a doubt for this short trip across London. The same uncertainty applies to Romeo Lavia and Benoit Badiashile, though manager Maresca indicated at the end of last month that both are close to making their return following the international break.
Liam Delap will be unavailable after suffering a serious hamstring injury against Fulham, but summer signing Alejandro Garnacho, who arrived from Manchester United, could be in line for his Chelsea debut.
