Pereira received his marching orders in the wake of Saturday's 3-0 humbling by Fulham which extended a dismal run of eight losses in ten Premier League games.
The 57-year-old had originally steered the club away from a relegation battle upon his arrival last December but has seen results deteriorate in the current campaign.
Remarkably, he was handed a new three-year contract at Molineux in September.
But with the Old Gold rock-bottom in the top flight and eight points adrift of safety, the club dispensed with the Portuguese in attempts to salvage their season.
“Vítor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful," said executive chairman Jeff Shi.
“Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change.
“We thank Vítor and his staff for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future.”
Under-21 coach James Collins and under-18 coach Richard Walker will oversee first-team training while the search for Pereira's successor gets underway.
Wolves are next in action when they travel to high-flying Chelsea.
