Arsenal injury list compared to title rivals after Martin Odegaard and William Saliba updates

Arsenal will have some concerns about their growing injury list after the victory over Nottingham Forest.

The Gunners claimed a 3-0 win on Saturday afternoon against Forest with Martin Zubimendi on the score sheet twice, while Viktor Gyokeres also scored for the home side at the Emirates Stadium.

In the first half in North London, Arsenal were handed an injury blow when Martin Odegaard was substituted after receiving treatment. Mikel Arteta later confirmed that the Norway international had suffered a shoulder injury and was still uncertain if a return would be possible for the Champions League clash against Athletic Club next week.

"I don't know if it's exactly the same place, but very similar injury," Arteta told reporters on Saturday after the win over Forest.

"He [Odegaard] wasn't comfortable to continue, he's played two games with Norway, unfortunately he cannot carry on today. So we have to assess him with the doctors and see, but I'm sure he will try his best to be fit for Tuesday."

If Odegaard is unavailable for the Champions League clash, he joins a growing Arsenal injury list. Kai Havertz, William Saliba, Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka all missed the win over Forest, with Odegaard now being added to the list.

Saliba returned to training this week after suffering an ankle injury before the international break, and Arteta explained why the defender did not feature against Forest.

"He [Saliba] trained yesterday and he did the whole session and he was OK," said Arteta. "I spoke to him afterwards, and he said I think I need a few more days.

"The turnaround has been too quick for the extent of the injury, so when a player says that, don't push it."

Compared to their title rivals, Arsenal are certainly being forced to manage their resources more carefully in the early weeks of the season. Liverpool, for example, only have Curtis Jones and Stefan Bajcetic ruled out for this weekend's match against Burnley.

Liverpool have had Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley on the injury list in the early weeks of the campaign, but both players have now recovered and are available for selection.

Manchester City have also been dealing with injury concerns this season. Rayan Cherki, Omar Marmoush, Rayan Ait-Nouri, Mateo Kovacic, Josko Gvardiol, Savinho, Phil Foden, John Stones, Abdukodir Khusanov and Kalvin Phillips have all been dealing with injury worries this term.
