Arsenal flop, 31, unemployed for just hours after deal ripped up by LaLiga club

DENIS SUAREZ has signed for Alaves after having his Villarreal contract terminated.

The former Spain international, 31, endured an ill-fated loan spell at Arsenal in 2019.

Suarez arrived on loan from Barcelona to much intrigue.

But the midfielder managed just six forgettable appearances during a low key stint with the Gunners.

Following his time at Arsenal, Barca sold Suarez to Celta Vigo for around £13.8million.

The one-cap Spain ace went on to spend four years with the Galicia side, as someone that hails from region.

He would go on to return to Catalonia in the form of a loan spell at Espanyol , before signing permanently for Villarreal in 2023.

Suarez made 75 appearances for the Yellow Submarine across two seasons.

Having been an unused substitute in their first two games of this season, Suarez had his Villarreal contract ripped up, enabling him to sign for Deportivo Alaves on a free transfer just hours later.

The former Gunner has penned a two-year deal with the LaLiga outfit.

Following his Arsenal loan, Suarez claimed to have been suffering from a pelvic issue for much of the doomed spell.

The Barca academy graduate told radio station Cadena Ser that he sustained an injury in just his second game for the Gunners against BATE Borisov in the Champions League .

Suarez said: "At the end of the game I thought that I had torn my groin and they did a scan and saw that I had an oedema on the bone in my pelvis.

"I thought I had torn something; I was in a lot of pain. And from then on I carried on training with medication and putting up with it as best I could but I didn’t feel right and [Unai] Emery didn’t think I was right.

"I wasn’t comfortable. I don’t think I was even at 50 per cent.

"After 15 days of being at Arsenal, I wasn’t right. From the 16th I wasn’t even at 50 per cent."
