Ange Postecoglou “wants to go back to England” amid reports linking the former Tottenham head coach with the Nottingham Forest managerial vacancy.

Postecoglou has been out of work since being relieved of his duties at Spurs just days after overseeing a 1-0 win over Manchester United in last season’s Europa League final - winning the club's first trophy in 17 years.

The Australian has strongly been tipped for a return to management ever since. In the summer, LAFC were reportedly interested in Postecoglou, while just last week his name was being ‘discussed’ by Bayer Leverkusen and Fenerbahce .

Leverkusen have since appointed Kasper Hjulmand as their new head coach, but Postecoglou’s preference is to return to England in any scenario.

This is according to former Australia international Robbie Slater, who now works as an analyst for Fox Sports News, as he shared details of a recent conversation involving the ex- Spurs boss.

“He wants to go back to England, I know that,” Slater said. “Graham Arnold met up with him recently, and had a great conversation with him, and he wants to go back to the Premier League.

“We know Tottenham didn’t have a great season in respect to their Premier League position, 17th. But they did win the Europa League, that’s a big thing.

“When you look at it, I wouldn’t rule out Manchester United the way things are going with Amorim.

“Certainly, Nottingham Forest , West Ham, in particular, are an option.

“I think those three clubs, United, West Ham, Forest look dodgy in respect to their managers.

“It’s intriguing isn’t it? Three clubs with potential for Ange.

“You wouldn’t even be surprised if he’d already spoken to someone from one of these clubs.”

While departures at Man Utd and West Ham for Ruben Amorim and Graham Potter respectively appear unlikely at present, Forest are searching for a new manager after sacking Nuno Espirito Santo on Monday night .

According to reports, Postecoglou is thought to be held in high regard by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis. Another former Spurs boss in Jose Mourinho is also seen as a potential candidate along with Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, Fulham’s Marco Silva, and USMNT manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Forest have spent the international break exploring their options in the market, but whether they make an appointment before Saturday’s Premier League clash away at Arsenal remains to be seen.
