Andre Onana is said to be open to the idea of leaving Manchester United for Turkey - but has yet to make a final decision on a move to Trabzonspor. The former Inter Milan man has endured a rollercoaster couple of seasons at Old Trafford since arriving for £43m.

High-profile errors have blighted his performances, while Onana has found himself behind Altay Bayindir this season. The Cameroonian then fell even further down the pecking order with the £18m arrival of Senne Lammens on deadline day. United have been open to letting Onana leave all summer, albeit he did not manage to find a new club before the end of the Premier League window. Since then, Turkish side Trabzonspor have opened talks with United regarding a loan move.

According to The Athletic , the move would be a straight loan with a buy option. Trabzonspor now need Onana’s approval to complete a move and while he is open to a switch, he still wants to review the contract on offer.

The Turkish window remains open until September 12, with Trabzonspor keen to get a deal secured ahead of their next game against Fenerbahce, which takes place two days later. Onana still has three years left on the long-term contract he signed when he moved to Old Trafford back in the summer of 2023.

United boss Ruben Amorim recently leapt to Onana’s defence after a poor performance against Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup. He said: "They are humans. At Manchester United , everything is analysed. Everybody talks about the goalkeeper. And you can see, I can change the goalkeeper and these situations keep happening. We are in that moment. I think it is hard to be a Manchester United goalkeeper in this moment.

"But if you look at the first goal, we can defend it better. We suffered a quite similar goal against Fulham , because we don't do the full rotation of the team when the ball is on the other side. All these small things have nothing to do with the goalkeeper."

Elsewhere, United’s summer addition Lammens has already made a number of promises should he be installed as the Red Devil’s number one following his arrival from Royal Antwerp. “I think if you want to be a good goalkeeper, you have to be a rock behind the defence,” said Lammens. “They have to trust you and count on you in difficult moments. That is something I take pride in. Of course, I can improve in this because the next level is bigger, but it is one of my attributes that I am proud of and I try to improve.

“My parents are also really calm and collected, but [I also developed this mentality] from growing up, when I was in the youth team and I thought about the goalkeeper I wanted to become later in life.

“I think one of the best attributes you can have as a goalkeeper is staying calm under pressure, in any circumstances, even if you make a mistake or something. You just move on and try to give your best to the team.”
