Alexis Sanchez: Former Man United striker secures surprise move to Sevilla
Former Manchester United attacker Alexis Sanchez has completed the next step in his long career.
The Chilean moved to Europe to play for Italian side Udinese and secured a move to FC Barcelona in 2011.
After three years in Catalonia, he signed for Arsenal and spent four successful years at the club, scoring 80 goals in 166 appearances.
Sanchez surprisingly moved to United in the January window of 2018 in a swap deal with Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
The Chilean international desperately struggled at the club and only managed five goals in 45 appearances for United.
His biggest moment came scoring in an FA Cup semi-final victory over Tottenham in 2018. He also scored a goal against his former club in the Emirates, also coming in the FA Cup in 2019.
As a result of his poor form, he moved first on loan to Inter Milan and then permanently in 2020.
He has since played for Marseille and Udinese.
Sanchez has made his next career step by signing for La Liga side Sevilla, a return to Spain after an absence of eleven years.
The Andalusian club state on their club website that, “Sevilla FC and Udinese Calcio have reached an agreement for the arrival, for one season, of Chilean forward Alexis Sánchez to the Sevilla squad.”
They also add that, “after a spectacular career and 165 goals across his various clubs, Sevilla welcomes the player with the most appearances in the history of the Chilean national team, a total of 168, in which he has scored 51 goals.”
