Alejandro Garnacho has been branded a “wonderful person” by a team-mate as he settles into life at Chelsea . The Argentine star is a controversial figure in some quarters, especially among Manchester United fans.

His Old Trafford career was blighted by fallouts with Erik ten Hag and Ruben Amorim, who both struggled to get the best out of him on a regular basis. Garnacho’s time at United ended on a sour note as he publicly complained about starting the Europa League final on the bench and then branded their season “s***.”

Therefore, it was no surprise when he left United before the transfer deadline, with Chelsea paying £40million for his signature. Garnacho’s Stamford Bridge career is yet to ignite, but his presence is being felt off the pitch.

That is especially so with fellow new signing and Argentine Facundo Buonanotte, who has spoken highly of both Garnacho and another countryman, Enzo Fernandez. Buonanotte, who arrived on loan from Brighton in the summer, told DSports Radio that Garnacho “is a very good person.”

He said: “I have a very good relationship with him. I already knew him from the national team, but now we share a lot on a daily basis because we are the same age. That makes things nicer.

“He might have had problems at the club, which can happen to any player, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that he is a wonderful person. And here at Chelsea, we are very happy to have him.”

That assessment will come as a surprise to some but offers an insight into Garnacho’s character away from the pitch. Meanwhile, Buonanotte said Fernandez has played an important role in helping himself and Garnacho settle in at Chelsea.

He added: “Enzo was the first to write to me when my arrival at the club was confirmed. I was very grateful.

“That tells you what a good person he is. I don’t need to say anything about what he’s like on the pitch, because he’s a wonderful player and everyone can see that, but on top of that, he's a great person.

“He is always trying to help Garnacho, me, and everyone else. Enzo is a fundamental pillar here. He is our captain. I am very happy to share so many moments with him and learn from him every day.”

Buonanotte and Garnacho will get extra time to adapt to life at Chelsea after being left out of Argentina’s squad for their upcoming friendlies against Venezuela and Puerto Rico in the United States, one of the joint-hosts for next year’s World Cup. Chelsea return to Premier League action at Nottingham Forest on October 18.
