Alarm bells set off at Barcelona after superstar’s injury; two staff members under scrutiny
Pedri’s latest injury setback, which is expected to keep him out for around six to seven weeks , has sent shockwaves through FC Barcelona .
The midfielder’s absence has not only added another name to the club’s ever-growing injury list but has also sparked serious questions about the team’s physical preparation and management behind the scenes.
This season has been a nightmare for Barcelona on the fitness front. Almost every key player has struggled with consistency, including Robert Lewandowski, Dani Olmo, Raphinha, Joan Garcia, and even Lamine Yamal.
The constant rotation between recovery and relapse has severely disrupted Hansi Flick’s plans and has forced the team to repeatedly reshuffle its structure.
According to a report from AS , frustration inside the club is at a boiling point, and the mood is one of anger and disappointment, with growing calls to put an immediate stop to what one insider described as a “bleeding situation.”
Two figures, in particular, are under intense scrutiny, namely, Julio Tous, the head of physical training, and Raul Martinez, the head of physiotherapy.
Both joined Barcelona at the start of Flick’s tenure, brought in as part of a modernisation project aimed at improving player endurance and preventing recurring muscle problems.
Tous, a renowned specialist with experience in elite football, had even promised to cut muscular injuries by 50%. However, that promise has quickly turned into a point of criticism.

Last season, Barcelona’s physical performance was widely praised. The squad looked energetic, sharp, and capable of executing Flick’s intense pressing system.
But the 2025/26 campaign has been a complete reversal. The players appear slower, less resilient , and unable to sustain high-intensity football for long stretches.
Pedri’s injury has become the tipping point. Once seen as the symbol of recovery and stability, the midfielder had shown remarkable improvement since Tous and Martinez took charge.
For months, he remained injury-free, a rare achievement considering his history.
Yet now, he finds himself back on the sidelines, and that has amplified doubts about whether the club’s physical structure is functioning as intended.
As a result, the coaching and medical staff are under pressure to deliver answers.
Club sources insist that an internal evaluation is already underway to determine the real causes of the decline.
The head doctor, Ricard Pruna, is said to be “overwhelmed” as the medical room continues to fill up week after week.
The 2025/26 season started as a defending campaign, but that has now become a state of solid trouble.
