Manchester United managed to maintain their four-game unbeaten streak against Nottingham Forest , but the match was not without its share of controversy.

The Red Devils were held to a 2-2 draw by Forest in Saturday's Premier League clash, with Casemiro netting the first goal at the City Ground. The home side took the lead in the second half, owing to goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona, before Amad Diallo levelled the score for United in the final minutes.

That draw brought an end to United's three-match winning run in the Premier League - causing Ruben Amorim's squad to drop to seventh place in the standings. However, the game was surrounded in controversy, particularly when it came to Casemiro's opening goal - after a corner appeared to be incorrectly given to United .

United were given a corner after the ball was deemed to have gone out of play - although some replays suggest that at least part of the ball may have still been in play. From the corner, Casemiro scored with a header, sparking frustration from Forest boss Sean Dyche and the home supporters.

Post-match, Dyche expressed to BBC Sport his belief that VAR should be used to verify decisions such as corner kicks, which could have prevented United from having the opportunity to score the first goal. However, former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer - while agreeing that the ball did go out of play - disagreed with the need for VAR intervention.

"Sean Dyche has got a point, I'm not sure how the assistant referee on the far side can actually see that far and then be absolutely certain that the ball was out [of play]. Because it wasn't, it was nearly 70 yards away, so they can't be certain because the ball isn't out [of play]," said Shearer on Match of the Day.

"I agree with Sean, I understand his frustration and his anger, but I wouldn't say we'd like to get VAR involved - because the game his stopping and starting as it is.

"I know he says it will only take four or five seconds, but I wouldn't encourage that. But I would encourage the officials to do their job properly and get it right and not guess, because they've guessed there and got it wrong."

In his post-match interview, Dyche said: "It's not inconclusive. I've seen it back.

"That's two decisions that aren't right that have gone against us. They give corners that aren't corners. They gave one last week and one this week. It's a really poor decision. That decides a lot. We are fighting for our lives to get up the table."

Meanwhile, Forest's captain, Morgan Gibbs-White, also vented his frustration over two points dropped following Amad's equaliser, just under ten minutes from time. "To get a point is good but the dressing room is frustrated not to get all three," he told Sky Sports . "We conceded two silly corners (from which they scored), I don't think the first one was even a corner.

"From where I was standing, I was pretty far away, I didn't know if it went out. I haven't been able to check it yet, but all the boys were saying at half-time.

"The analysts, they said the ball had never gone out, so I think it's something that needs to be looked at because it happened twice to us now in two weeks. Last week against Bournemouth it wasn't their corner - so it's something they need to look at because it's cost us two points."
